New Year greetings

After a very enjoyable and rather memorable Christmas visit to DD and her family in Yorkshire, DH and I made our way home across the Pennines yesterday, but only for a couple of days.  After doing the laundry and making extra supplies of mince pies to take with us, DH and I are off again tomorrow, heading south this time, to see the New Year in with his mother and brother and then to spend a few days with DS and his family.

I have a post about our eventful Christmas brewing, but no time now to commit the thoughts to keyboard. So before I head upstairs to pack the suitcase again, may I wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year. Here’s hoping 2016 will bring the UK rather more sun and considerably less rain.

  1. I didn't know that you had been creating beer during your time in Yorkshire, Perpetua :-) Glad to know that you're safely back home & look forward to the promised blog post. Wishing you safe travels to Gloucestershire & Oxford. Št’astný nový rok! Happy New Year!

    1. You've heard the expression " a ferment of thought", haven't you, Ricky? ;-) I've had the ideas at the back of my mind for a couple of days, but getting down to sorting them properly will have to wait until we get home next week. It's all go in retirement, you know. :) Bonne Année and alles Gute zum Neuen Jahr.

  2. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and wishing you a Happy New Year, Perpetua! These last few weeks have been a big strange... Christmas seems to have come and gone in a fog here. But we're ready for 2016!

    1. Thanks, Rian. I'm not surprised Christmas has been overshadowed for you by your bereavement and then the terrible storms in Texas. It's been rather like that with the floods in the UK. Here's to a better 2016.

    Travel safely.

All best wishes for the year to come and looking forward to the blogging results of the fermenting thoughts...

    1. My brother-in-law is the brewer and very nice it is too. :-)

Thanks for the good wishes and I hope 2016 will bring better health for you both. We will probably be blown to our destination if the tossing of the trees outside my window is anything to go by.

  4. You are a ball of energy, Perpetua. Happy New Year, and I hope the trip south goes without incident. We have been shocked at the film footage of the floods in Yorkshire and I'm glad you made it home safely. I look forward to hearing your post about your Christmas trip.

    1. Not really, Patricia, but plans have been made and they will be kept. :-) The trip south will be wet and windy, but should be without incident. The poor north is suffering again.

Here's to a quiet 2016 with plenty of time for blogging.

    1. Thanks, Ray. Sadly our journey is coinciding with the tail end of Storm Frank, but thankfully the forecast is for calmer weather buy the end of the day. Let's hope that's a prelude to a calmer 2016.

    1. Thanks, Yam. Sorry you've had such a very soggy return home. I hope your ration of Antipodean sun has set you up for the rest of the winter. :) We've now decamped from mother-in-law to son for the rest of our trip and are enjoying it all very much.

  10. Safe travels Perpetua. We have just had a snow storm with about 20cm on the ground, so I won't be travelling anywhere soon. Happy New Year to you and yours, and blessing too.

    1. Thanks, Bonnie. I hope you're soon able to get out and about again. Here it is just very wet again, though we should be grateful that all this rain isn't coming down as snow, otherwise the country would grind to a halt!

  19. You are traveling again – I hope you enjoyed visiting family and had a merry Christmas and New Year. For almost 3 weeks I was in bed over the holidays with a nasty case of acute bronchitis so we had not much fun this year – I am just starting being on the computer again and am late offering my best wishes. I do wish you a great 2016 with safe travel, fun and good health.

    1. How lovely to see you back, Vagabonde, but I'm very sorry you were so ill over the festive season. Yes, we did quite a lot of travelling within a couple of weeks, often in horrible weather, but it was all worth it to have such fun with children, grandchildren and wider family. Now we're glad to be quietly at home for the rest of the winter. I hope 2016 becomes much better for you after a bad beginning.

    1. Thanks, Christine. Yes, our Christmas travels can seem a bit hectic, but it does mean that we get to spend a decent amount of time with our two offspring and their families when for once they aren't busy with all their multifarious activities. Some years we go straight from one to the other and the amount of laundry at the end of our travels can be daunting. :-)
